Grammy Nominations 2027 Preview Contenders Explained: What Is Confirmed, What Is Only Predicted

Confirmed: The Recording Academy will announce the nominees for the 69th Grammy Awards on Monday, 16 November 2026, starting at 4:45 a.m. PT / 7:45 a.m. ET, on Grammy.com and the official Grammys YouTube channel. First-round voting, which determines the nominees, closed on 22 October. Reported and predicted, not confirmed: every contender list in circulation. Variety, Rolling Stone and Billboard have published predictions naming artists they expect to be nominated, reported here only as predictions, with sources named. Grammy nominations 2027 preview contenders explained therefore starts with the governing rule: nothing is nominated until the Academy announces it on 16 November, and no prediction, chart position, submission or campaign changes that.

Between voting and the announcement, the Academy publishes no leaderboard or hint of the outcome. This preview separates the confirmed process and dates from the eligibility window and one timing trap, the attributed prediction lists, and announcement morning.

How nominations work: entry, screening, and two rounds of peer voting

The Grammy process has four stages. The Academy’s FAQ and its submission and voting guides describe them; the companion explainer covers the submission-versus-nomination distinction in full — see Grammy submissions vs nominations explained and the Grammy Awards 2027 date, nominations and voting explainer.

Entry comes first. For the 69th awards, the Online Entry Process ran 7 July–21 August 2026, and media-company registration ran 25 June–14 August 2026, per the FAQ. Only registered media companies and Recording Academy members (voting and professional) can submit. A recording never formally submitted cannot be considered, the submission guide states: “If a recording or work is not formally submitted, it cannot be considered for a Grammy Award or a Grammy nomination.”

Next is screening. The Awards Department checks eligibility, and genre-based committees check category placement. The FAQ says more than 150 experts take part, and committees “do not make artistic or technical judgments about the recordings, but merely ensure that each entry is placed in the proper category.” An entry that fails screening never reaches a ballot; one that passes has achieved only that.

Then comes first-round voting, which determines the nominees. Only voting members — working creators — can vote; the public does not vote. For 2027, voting ran 12–22 October 2026. Under “10/3”, members vote in up to ten categories across up to three genre fields, plus the four General Field categories. Ballot Plus, new for 2027, is an opt-in alternative for members with verified multi-genre credits. Most categories have five nominees; the four General Field categories have eight. A few craft categories use specialised committees.

Finally, final-round voting (10 December 2026–7 January 2027, voting members only) determines the winners, revealed on 7 February 2027. Chart success, streaming and fan campaigns do not count: no public vote is added to a ballot, and a past win does not carry forward.

The eligibility window — and the Encore trap

Recordings must have been released between 31 August 2025 and 28 August 2026, via general distribution or a recognised streaming service, per the FAQ. An album needs at least five tracks and 15 minutes, or 30 minutes with no track minimum. Recordings had to be publicly available by 28 August 2026 — and entered by 21 August 2026.

Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl, released 3 October 2025, is inside the window, as is “The Fate of Ophelia”, subject to whether it was submitted — a question this article does not answer, as the Academy publishes no complete submission list. Swift’s twentieth anniversary, covered in the Taylor Swift 20 years debut anniversary explainer, confers no eligibility; only release dates matter.

The trap is the deluxe edition. The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, adding “Patient Zero”, “Cleveland!”, “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon”, was released 25 September 2026 — 28 days after the window closed — as reported by Reuters and Billboard Philippines and set out in the Showgirl Encore explainer. The four songs are therefore not eligible for the 2027 awards. “Patient Zero” debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 on 10 October 2026, ending Ella Langley’s run at No. 1 (see the Patient Zero and Ella Langley chart explainer), but an October 2026 No. 1 cannot be a 2027 nominee. The Encore songs fall into the following year’s period, subject to entry then. The same calendar kept the original album out of the 2026 race, as it followed that window’s 30 August 2025 close.

The other predicted names pass the date test: Dean’s The Art of Loving (26 September 2025), Langley’s Dandelion (10 April 2026) and “Choosin’ Texas” (17 October 2025), and Rodrigo’s third album (12 June 2026) are inside the window. That establishes eligibility to be considered — not entry, screening survival, or votes.

What is new in 2027: five categories, Ballot Plus, and rule changes

The 2027 awards will present 100 categories across 11 genre fields and one General Field, per the FAQ. Five are new, announced in June 2026: Best Asian Pop Music Performance; Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance; Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance; Best Traditional Folk Album; and Best Latin Song. They create first-time races with no previous winners, and their definitions decide who can compete.

Best Asian Pop Music Performance recognises Asian pop, including K-pop, J-pop and C-pop; eligibility depends on style and meaningful use of an Asian language, not the performer’s ethnicity or nationality. Best Latin Song recognises songwriters for newly written songs with at least 51 percent of lyrics in Spanish. The other three cover R&B collaborations, traditional pop vocals and traditional folk albums. Two categories were renamed: Best R&B Solo Performance and Best Contemporary Folk Album.

Ballot Plus, an opt-in alternative to “10/3”, lets members with verified multi-genre credits vote in up to 15 peer-related categories; it does not change who may vote. The Best New Artist guidelines changed, and the album new-recordings threshold was lowered. Reporting put those as three to four permitted considerations, and 75 percent to 66 percent. Those figures come from secondary reporting, not from the official Rules and Guidelines text read for this draft. The Best New Artist change is reported to matter for Ella Langley, who had reportedly been considered three times — a reported consequence, not an Academy statement about her.

Grammy nominations 2027 preview contenders explained: what the prediction lists say

Everything here is prediction, labelled as such throughout. Sources are Variety’s Album and Record of the Year predictions, Rolling Stone’s category predictions, and Billboard’s 2027 predictions, as summarised in contemporaneous reporting checked for this draft. Where a summary, not the original article, was read, that is stated. No name is called a nominee, a lock, or a certainty.

The dominant narrative, in Variety’s framing as summarised on 1 November, is a contest between two Olivias. Variety’s Album of the Year predictions (8 October) placed Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving and Olivia Rodrigo’s You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love at the centre, described in summary as the two leading album contenders. The General Field was reduced from ten nominees to eight, so Variety named ten leading contenders from which it expected the eight to be drawn. That arithmetic is key: ten names chasing eight slots means at least two prominent predictions will be wrong, before any surprise.

Variety’s ten, alphabetically as published, were reported as: Brandi Carlile (Returning to Myself), Olivia Dean (The Art of Loving), Noah Kahan, Ella Langley (Dandelion), Bruno Mars, Raye, Olivia Rodrigo (You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love), Rosalía, Sienna Spiro and Taylor Swift (The Life of a Showgirl), with ten more named as also able to get in. Women lead the predicted field, and genre range is wide. None of that makes it a result; Variety’s framing, as summarised, was explicitly tentative.

Swift’s predicted position shows how eligibility, sales and prediction interact without deciding anything. Billboard’s coverage, as summarised on 1 November, noted that an Album of the Year nomination would be her eighth in the category, more than anyone else for strictly solo albums — if the prediction comes true. It rests on eligibility, commercial scale (No. 1 on the Billboard 200, 4.002 million equivalent album units in its first US week, per Luminate data reported by Guinness World Records), and four Album of the Year wins. Swift is a leading contender in prediction language — a prediction, not a nominee.

Langley’s position rests on a historic chart run. “Choosin’ Texas” (17 October 2025) reached No. 1 on the Hot 100 and held it for a run reported at different lengths — 19 weeks on the chart dated 29 August 2026, and a longer run, called the longest in Hot 100 history, in later September reporting. This draft states no final week count, as sources conflicted. Variety named Langley among ten leading Record contenders for “Choosin’ Texas”, with Dean, Grande, Kahan, Mars, Raye, Rodrigo, Rosalía, Spiro and Swift. Rolling Stone’s Song predictions reportedly included Langley, Dean, Carlile, Mars, Raye, Rodrigo, Swift and Toliver.

The wider field is where surprises live. Kahan, Mars, Raye, Rosalía, Carlile and Spiro appear in both Variety lists. Two cautions apply: pre-close predictions cannot reflect ballots, and agreement between outlets is agreement between predictions, not confirmation. No one on any list is a nominee yet.

Announcement morning, final voting, and the ceremony

On Monday, 16 November 2026, from 4:45 a.m. PT / 7:45 a.m. ET, nominations will be announced on Grammy.com and the Grammys YouTube channel, with past winners and nominees helping to announce them. The full list will be posted on Grammy.com immediately after, followed by a Wrap-Up Show, covering all 100 categories. This site’s Grammy explainers will be updated on the same URLs when the list is published.

Final-round voting runs 10 December 2026–7 January 2027, among voting members only. The ceremony is Sunday, 7 February 2027, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, live on ABC and streaming on Disney+ and Hulu — the first on ABC after more than five decades on CBS. No host had been announced in Academy material checked here. Trevor Noah, host of the 68th ceremony, was reported to have said that role would be his last; that is noted only to explain why no host is assumed. The correct label is the 69th Annual Grammy Awards, the 2027 Grammys: nominations in November 2026, ceremony in February 2027.

Before 16 November, check the verb (“submitted” is stage one; “nominated” is only the 16 November outcome), the date (work released after 28 August 2026 cannot be a 2027 nominee), and the source (team announcements describe campaigns; only the Academy describes results). On 16 November, the list replaces every prediction here.
